Firstly, let’s talk about the inspiration behind this project.

Refashioning old clothing into something new and beautiful is becoming increasingly popular in the fashion world.

As more and more people become conscious of the impact that fast fashion has on the environment, they are looking for ways to reduce waste and create something unique.

That’s where this DIY clutch bag comes in.

This step-by-step video guide makes it easy to follow along and create a stylish clutch bag from an old skirt. So, let’s get started!

A brief Overview to Sewing a Slouchy Clutch Bag Refashioned from an Old Thrifted Skirt

  • An old skirt (preferably one made of a sturdy fabric such as denim or canvas) (Need Supplies)
  • Scissors
  • wadding
  • Sewing machine
  •  Needle and thread
  • Fabric glue
  • fastening (snaps)
  • Iron

Step 1: Choose your skirt

Choose a skirt that you no longer wear or one you have found in a thrift store.

It’s essential to make sure that the fabric is still in good condition and not too thin. You want to ensure that the clutch bag has enough structure to hold its shape. (Add wadding to give it structure).

Step 2: Fold the skirt

Fold the skirt into itself, so that you are working with half the length of the skirt.

Step 3: Inside the skirt

At this stage the skirt is forming compartments, in order to hold your items.

Step 4: The compartments

The clutch is taking shape, it as its compartments in place, there should three in total.

Step 5: Add Fastening

Add the fastening to the centre of the clutch bag.

Step 6: Add Fastening

Finish the top of this slouchy clutch bag either by gluing or stitching it in place to hold the bag together.

And there you have it!
